This is an animated movie demonstrating the suitcase bicycle, a new type of folding bike that will be available in coming months. Designed for commuters, travelers and apartment dwellers, the bike folds into a rollable suitcase like shell when not in use. The shell completely protects and encloses the chain and all other bicycle components. For more about this unusual folding bike, visit… ridethisbike.com

!!!wtf!!!
does it make camera shutter noises when u transform it?
This bike is more than a computer animation – it exists. At lease 10 have been built and they have parts to make 50 or more immediately but the company has yet to begin selling them. As to why, your guess is as good as mine. The design does require a lot of steps to fold the bike though.
If only on paper, it is feasible, but the suitcase will have to be longer & higher. The main reason is the two retracted wheels must be in line. On the other hand, if the wheels can be made to be OFFSET but parallel, then the case size can remain as is.
Oops. It’s been awhile since I checked the exchange rate. That makes the Brompton cost over $1500 USD. Ouch.
The Suitcase Bike is rather complicated to fold and this is a problem. Still, if the bike ends up weighing in at 10 kg and has a decent ride, there is a market for a bike like this.
Actually it’s around 1000 Euro, so the price is surely an argument (as always….). The Brompton ist small enough for confined areas, but surely a suitcase-bike should also do nicely. But will it be are fully useable bike? Besides weight and ease of folding this is the important factor. But I look forward to see a review of this bike if hits production.
Brompton’s fold really fast AND roll when folded but most cost over $1200. The Suitcase bike is supposed to cost less than half that; it also has no sharp edges to catch on things (important when taking a bike into a confined area such as a subway car or bus).
Just found this video and sorry, but this is a joke… It’s way to complicated, looks ugly and I’ve folded my brompton faster AND packed into a case than in this animation.
Most important, folders like Brompton, Birdy or GoBike are good Bikes. This Thing with it’s mini-wheels?
Sorry but this is a solution for a problem that didn’t existed in the first place.
It looks really slow… what we need to do is use bikes and similar transportation to chill out the gas situation. They’re using it as an excuse to starve us by hiking up food products, etc., when we still have tons of oil left and it’s price (as well as everything else’s price) depends on the value of the American Dollar… which loses value for some reason every time we go to war.
I agree and apparently, so did the designer. He’s created a totally differnt suitcase bike that’s far lighter. It’s made using a magnesium alloy shell but I’ve received no word as to when it will be in production.
30 pounds ?! that’s way to much to carry around for long.
BAD idea. Look how TINY those wheels are. You hit even a small rock and you’re going over the bars.
True, Bike Friday HAS been making bikes that can be placed in a suitcase, with the suitcase turning into a trailer pulled behind the bike. The difference is that the Suitcase Bike and the suitcase are one in the same, resulting in far less time to convert the bike for transporting it or storage.
Suitcase bike new idea ..
Bike Friday from Oregon USA have been making suitcase bikes for decades now ..
Transformers, robots in disguise!
aanddd where can I put my cloth, laptop, suvenirs, shoes, bath things, ecc.. ?????
Brompton’s are great folding bikes; nevertheless, most all airlines (and some rail lines)still require a Brompton or any other folding bike to be placed in a case of some sort.
Yes, the Suitcase Folding Bike is complicated ; it’s also an evolutionary step towards a more portable and usable folding bike.
In the UK, we have a folding bike called a Brompton, that seems to unfold in about fifteen to twenty seconds. Way faster and simpler than this. I haven’t got one but they’re very popular.
They look like they’ve got bigger wheels as well.
This concept is ill thought-out, too complicated and parts could get lost. Rated ‘Poor’.
wtf lol sounds from counterstrike, what a loser.
Sun sent the owner’s manual to me and I was astonished by all the steps needed to fold the bike. Is it an interesting invention? Absolutely. Is it ready for prime time? Hmmmm…
I like the video, but this design doesn’t seem practical. 8-9 steps to fold or unfold it? The folding procedure has to be simplified a lot before the general public will be interested in using this.
What type of folding bike do you have that weighs 15 lbs? A-bikes weigh about 13 lbs but I don’t know of a folder that weighs 15…
looks cool.. but heavy.
My folding bike is only 15 lbs and I’ll stick w/ it till its broken.
Nice bike though.
lol doesnt look too good but its practical i could imagine
i hope 1 day the dream of future come….
Nice Bycicle!!!
